The Spirit of Citrus Dancers are Chapter 6072 of USA Dance, Inc. f/k/a United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association, a national non-profit organization and have been dancing in Citrus County, since 2000.

As a Chapter of USA Dance, Inc. ,our mission is to support programs for the recreational enjoyment of ballroom dancing and to create affordable opportunities for the general public to participate in the physical, mental and social benefits of ballroom dancing.

A Little History

Ron Hinneburg gave birth to the idea of establishing a Chapter of USABDA (now known as USA Dance, Inc.) in Citrus County in the summer of 2000. He and his fellow students were facing the closing of the local dance studio where they were taking lessons. Not wanting to give up dancing, they thought that if they could get enough people together to form a Chapter and find a place to have dances, they wouldn’t have to. Through Ron’s and his close friend, Ann Averitt’s diligence, they did just that. They started out as a Satellite of the Ocala Chapter with close to 100 members and then in June, 2001 they applied to the USABDA National Office to become an official Chapter and thus, the Spirit of Citrus Dancers was born. Ron served as Chapter President until he was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. Ron lost his battle to cancer in the summer of 2003. Ron’s love for dancing started the Spirit of Citrus Dancers; however, it’s the joy the current members get from dancing and the sharing of that joy with others that is the true “Spirit” of the Spirit of Citrus Dancers
